Laws and standards

The sensitive area of drinking water disinfection is regulated by international and national laws, ordinances, regulations and recognised technical rules. Only treatment substances and disinfection methods that have been tested and approved for their effectiveness and sustainability may be used.

Conforming to German laws

newtec bases its solutions on the German Infection Protection Law (IfSG) and the Drinking Water Law (TrinkwV).

Sodium hypochlorite NaClO is approved in the German Federal Environmental Agency list according to § 11 of German Drinking Water Law:

  • nt-BlueBox only generates and doses sodium hypochlorite solution as an effective disinfectant approved for drinking water

  • permissible dosing quantity for long-term disinfection max. 1.2 mg/L free chlorine (in special cases short-term max. 6 mg/L)

  • after dosing in the system min. 0.1 mg/L and max. 0.3 mg/L free chlorine during long-term disinfection of drinking water (in special cases short-term max. 0.6 mg/L)

Conform to EU Biocides regulation

The Newtec-solution is conform with directive (EU) No 528/2012 (Biocidal Products Regulation) and allows the employer/operator the substitution requirement of the Regulation to replace highly concentrated NaClO (6-15%), ClO2 or other hazardous disinfection chemicals. Otherwise the employer / operator is personally liable, especially if an accident occurs with the dangerous biocides.

According to DVGW worksheet W 557, section 7.1:

Until the technical renovation of the drinking water installation, temporary (long-term) disinfection of the drinking water can be helpful as an additional measure. Drinking water is available to the consumer during the measure.

According to TWIN 05 (4/2009):

Taking into account the extent of contamination and its hygienic significance, it may be necessary for health protection reasons to carry out continuous disinfection of the drinking water before and/or during a technical remediation."

ECHA Article 95 list and product certification

newtec is listed in the ECHA list according to Article 95 of the Biocidal Products Regulation (CPR) EU No 334/2014. The use of the newtec systems is therefor legitimized. Newtec is actively involved in ECHA product certification as well.

Legionella prevention in cooling towers

Newtec solution is used:

  • for Implementation of the 42nd BImSchV (2017) for evaporative cooling plants, cooling towers and wet separators of the Federal Immission Control Act;

  • for cost-effective prevention of the health risks caused by Legionella from these cooling towers
